Backing up pictures

Good morning friends!

In today's post I'm chatting about something I should of definitely taken my own advice on years ago!

For about the last week or so I've been getting emails and notifications on my Gmail that I'm running out of space and I'm pretty much at full capacity.

Since I've been saving my videos to upload to my YouTube for my vlogs I have noticed my space being taken up quite quickly.

I've been quite good at clearing the Google drive and deleting videos from pictures as soon as I'm finished with uploading everything for my YouTube videos. But it's still close to full capacity.

I've pretty much deleted all my emails - luckily Gmail isn't my main account, but the pictures seem to be what's taking up the most space.

I literally had no idea that every time I take a picture they are not only saving to my phone gallery, but they are going over to Google pictures too.

Please tell me I'm not the only person in the world not to realise this!

OK, so it's quite obvious what needs to be done - photos need to be deleted. I have thousands on my phone and just the thought of the long chore ahead of me made me resemble the eye rolling emoji. But my google space is more important then ever, now that I'm starting to take more videos and want them obviously saved until I have them where they need to be, i.e on YouTube in a vlog.

So for the last week I have been going through and being so ruthless deleting photos. I'm sure there are ones on Instagram and already somewhere in a Facebook album, you know the usual. But it's also the non-sharing photos that I want to keep. I'd say almost 90% of my pictures are of the cats. And if you're a pet parent you know how hard it is to delete photos of our fur-babies. It's near on impossible.

So what I've started to do again which I've done before is dumping the pictures in private Facebook albums. It is working, but it is a very slow process to upload them. I'm getting there though slowly but surely. Other then doing this I literally don't know where to put all the pictures on my phone.

I don't want to download them all onto the laptop. I've done this in the past and when your laptop gives up the ghost so do your pics. Sat in a drawer on a laptop that doesn't work for all eternity. We have mountain's of discs where we've saved pictures onto in the past - if you're old enough like me to remember saving pictures and files to compact discs! There's obviously usb's but you never know what's on them either and let's be honest they just get chucked in a drawer, again for all eternity. So the Facebook option for me, does seem like the best place for them. I just hope Facebook doesn't have a space limit!

I remember writing on my old blog years ago about backing up my pictures and going through them on a regular basis so they don't clog up the phone. Note to self, listen to my own advice.

So lesson learnt. Once I've finally managed to save and delete all these picture's I'm currently going through I will make sure every couple of weeks to go through all the albums on my phone. Sort out the pictures I want to keep and upload to private FB albums, delete any of the niff naff that we all take picture's of, you know all the 'stuff' to remind us to buy/look up etc. Just give my gallery a general audit if you like. I mean, we tidy up and keep our house tidy, so our phone should definitely be part of that too.

Oh and something else I've learnt, do not delete from google pictures first because they will disappear from your gallery too! Sort the gallery out first and then when 100% sure, delete from google photos for good.

Happy Thursday guys
