Hello!

Hello and welcome to the blog!

I always find these first posts the most difficult and almost a little cringy if I'm honest, in my case anyway.

But I think it's important to have that 'first' post to be able to kick the blog off properly.

By Heather, the blog

If you've popped over to the 'about' page you'll have a little idea that By Heather is a personal lifestyle blog. I've categorised it as that as it's basically an 'everything' and 'anything' blog and to be honest it doesn't really have a 'niche' so personal lifestyle seemed to fit the best.

If you've followed me for a while on the various social media platforms you'll probably have known I've had a few blogs over the years. Suncream and Sparkles, My Spanish Vida and Heather Townsend.

I've always enjoyed reading blogs and blogging myself, but my previous blogs just didn't feel right. Which is probably why I kept stopping and starting. If I'm honest I think I was just focusing on it all wrong. I wasn't blogging for 'me' but I think I was trying too hard to break into the 'world of blogging'.

So after a little step back from it all I've found my way back to wanting to have a blog again. This time though, I'm a little older ( erm, 43) and I'm approaching things in a completely different way. I want the blog to be a space where I can simply write, share and document my life, somewhere to be a little creative and also a space to be able to connect with you guys.

A little bit of background about me

I'm originally from the UK, on the South East coast of England. I was Cabin Crew for 5 years, which looking back was the best job. I met my husband there, Mark, he was an Aircraft Engineer at the time.

Mark and I then embarked on an overseas adventure which started off as 6 months in Malaysia which turned into living in the UAE for 5 years. We had a stint back in the UK, but then ended up living in France, Germany and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

During this time we bought our house in Southern Spain and rescued many cats along the way! Which is where we are based now.

I still love the UK so much and have regular trips back to get my UK fix! I'd never say never about moving back, because I am in a constant rollercoaster about Spain/UK, but it's the weather, it just gets too cold in the UK in the winter time.

More about the blog

So, now you know a little bit more about me let's get back into the blog.

Along with sharing and documenting basically my life goings on, I'll also be focusing on things that interest me like fashion, wellness, maybe some beauty bits too.

As you can tell By Heather will literally be a big mix of everything and anything which I really hope you enjoy.

I know some say blogging is dead and maybe the style of blogging I'm leaning into isn't really how it's done anymore. But as I said above, I'm not doing this for the clicks or popularity, I'm doing it for the pure joy of having a blog, creating and connecting. Which I'm sure there's still space for that!

Anyway, if you're still here, thank you!

I hope you enjoyed the 'first' post and learnt a little bit more about me and the blog.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! I just wanted to pop on here quickly and wish you all a very Happy New Year. As you know I've recently started the blog up again and it has been a bit of a slow burner getting back into it. The last couple of weeks something seems to have switched though and I really want to get up and running properly. I know I've literally done two posts and this will be my third lol, but I am really enjoying having a blog again and sharing whatever comes along. I'm under no illusion the blog will be a slow burner, which to be honest I want it to be, I want to get myself into the swing of it all, challenge myself and get myself into the habit of posting regularly and consistently. The beauty of blogs is that they can be read at any time which is wonderful, but I think for me to get into the habit that I want, I need to have a focused day I will release my posts on. So, for now I am going to start posting just once a week to begin with on a Thursday. (Hence me making sure...

My daily beauty products

Hi Guys, I hope 2026 is treating you well so far. In my previous  post  I mentioned about some beauty products I had just started using and I will report to you my thought's in due course, but it got me to thinking about the products I already use on a daily basis. My bathroom staples if you like, the go-to's.  It's something I'm always curious to know, what are the products on peoples sinks, their everyday toiletries. Not the ones that maybe an ad feature or collaboration, but the ones that get popped in the shopping basket week after week, month after month. The products that may not be as aesthetically pleasing, but always make the cut. I'm not going to go through every single product I use, 'cause quite frankly you and me just don't have the time and if you're anything like me you haven't got the attention span for it either. But I am going to show you the main players that I literally use everyday. Some I do switch up according to price and ju...

Sale shopping

Hi guys and welcome back to the blog. I wanted to chat to you about the sales. I know a lot of shops have their sales pretty much on-going these days and in a lot of stores the prices get slashed well before Christmas. In Spain though the main sales don't start in stores until January 7th, the day after the Three Kings celebration or Dia de Reyes. Usually they do start online on the evening of the 6th though. Of course like a lot of us I love a bargain so I had to go to the Boulevard on the 7th to check out the sales.  To be honest though I didn't really buy much at all. I mean I was ready to shop, I had the green light from Mark, but not much took my fancy to be honest. I am getting more sensible in my old age when it comes to buying. When I was younger I used to buy so much that was on sale and looking back it was really random stuff that just didn't get worn, but it was a bargain! Crazy mentality, but I guess we all have to go through that. There was so much lovely knitw...
